Home Shopping Turn-Offs

If you're looking to sell your home, not all decisions to update your home are equal. Curb appeal, updated kitchen, and updated baths are usually what sells your home, or can be the reason why your home is not selling. The reason why the big three are a good indication if your home will sell quickly or not is because bad curb appeal, an outdated kitchen or bath may be "red flags" to potential buyers. They cause the buyer to think that there may be more issues under the surface, and when they're thinking that, unfortunately, your home is going to be a tough sell.

Here are the top 4 turn-offs that can be prevented.

Outdated Kitchen

According to 71% of buyers, this is the number one turn-off. Kitchens should be fairly updated, functional, and have design appeal. Outdated kitchens deter 71% of buyers from moving forward with a purchase.

Outdated Bathroom

Another major turn-off is an outdated bathroom. 66% of buyers say this would keep them shopping. If you don't have enough money to remodel all of the bathrooms in your home, try remodeling the main bathroom or updated your master ensuite.

Outdated Carpet

Let's just be honest. Old carpet doesn't look very good and it tends to have that "old" smell attached to it. You know what I'm talking about. 59% of buyers say they will move on if a house has older carpet. The good news is that this is typically a very easy and inexpensive fix.

Old Appliances

If there's one thing that home buyers are looking forward to, it's new appliances. 50% of buyers said this alone would deter them from buying. The good news is, new appliances can make an ok kitchen look like a great kitchen. They are always worth the investment when selling.

Remember when you go to do updates to your home so that it will sell quickly, update the interiors with a buyer's perspective in mind. It's not necessarily what you like, but what most buyers will like. Here's to a fast home sale!
